Independent advisor on student housing development, investment, and design. Sixteen years building and managing residences at the University of the Free State — now in independent practice across Southern Africa.
For sixteen years Quintin Koetaan built one of South Africa's most respected university housing operations — twelve new residences, 42 buildings, and a financially self-sustaining auxiliary. He now advises independently on residence development, student housing investment, design, and management.
As Senior Director: Housing & Residence Affairs at the University of the Free State (2013–2025), he led student housing across three campuses and 280+ staff — building residences from the ground up, growing the portfolio into a self-sustaining operation, and establishing the off-campus accreditation framework that shaped national DHET policy.
He served as President of ACUHO-I SAC, the Southern African student-housing body, advised JOSHCO on turnkey student and social housing developments, and holds an MA with co-authored research in Land Use Policy. Today he advises developers, investors, universities, and government on building student housing that works — financially, operationally, and for the students who live in it.
